Orra

Speak,
and it’s written.

Dictate and translate in any app, and in your calls. Everything runs on your Mac.

Download for Mac

Version 0.6.0 Needs a Mac with Apple silicon, macOS 15.6 or later and about 6 GB of free space.

Dictation
Clean up (optional)
Translation

Made for the way
you actually talk.

Your vocabulary

Add the names and terms you use, and Orra writes them your way.

Learns from your corrections

Correct a misheard word after a dictation, and Orra remembers what it wrote and how you fixed it. Next time it writes the word your way. Off by default. It never keeps whole sentences.

Two languages, mixed

Speak Chinese, English, or both in one sentence. Under Dictation language in Settings you can pick Japanese or Spanish with English instead, as a beta.

Translation

Press the translation key and speak, and Orra translates between English and your dictation language, Chinese, Japanese or Spanish. It runs on your Mac.

Meeting Interpretation

Read what others say in your language, and let them hear you in theirs, even in your own voice.

Live Captions

Orra shows what your Mac plays, such as a call, as translated captions in a floating window. It translates with the same model on your Mac as the translation key. It never uses the microphone, and captions stay in memory only.

Speak Translations to Others

With Translation and Speak Translations to Others on in Settings, press the translation key and speak. A voice model on your Mac speaks the translation into Orra Microphone. Choose Orra Microphone as the microphone in your call app, and the other side hears your words in their language. Record a short voice sample, and it speaks in your own voice. Use only your own voice, and tell others they hear a synthesized voice.

The voice model is a download of about 2 GB. Orra Microphone is a separate download.

Projects Preview

Your mail, sorted and explained on your Mac.

Choose the Mail mailboxes Orra reads and add your projects with their folders and people, or start from the projects Orra suggests. Orra sorts each new email into its project. Click Explain, and the model on your Mac lists what the email says, with sources in the project’s files, its attachments and earlier mail, and the questions only you can decide. When the email needs a reply, a draft follows in the email’s language, Chinese or English. An email that Projects finds to be in another language, such as Japanese, gets no draft. You change the draft by typing or with the talk key, and paste it into Mail’s reply window.

Orra never sends, moves or deletes mail, and never connects to a mail server itself. Assigning, editing and deleting in Projects change only what it keeps on your Mac, never your mail in Mail. Projects is off until you turn it on in Settings, and needs a Mac with 16 GB of memory or more. It is a preview, so it may still change.

Privacy

What you say stays on your Mac.

You need the internet only to download Orra and its models. Apart from that, Orra goes online only to check for updates, and only if you allow it. Everything else runs on your Mac, and Orra never saves your recordings or what you said, with two exceptions. If you turn on Remember my voice, it keeps the audio of your voice sample, never its words. And Projects keeps what you type or say to change a draft, with the draft, for 30 days after its last change. Data you keep while Projects is off stays until you turn it on again or delete it. Projects reads your mail through the Mail app on your Mac and never connects to a mail server itself, and what it keeps stays on your Mac. The privacy details are on GitHub.
